Hey everyone! Today I present to you a Frightfully Delightful Trip Report from one of our awesome site members- Ryan O.! Though his visit to the park was a week ago, it still makes for a good read! Check it out below:
On Sunday October 9, I went to Magic Mountain with my friend Cooper from
Minnesota, and it turned out to be the most amazing day I've ever spent at SFMM.
We got a total of 35 rides in, including 4 times on Tatsu, Superman, and Ninja
(3 of favorite rides at SFMM), as well as 2 rides on X2. We made good use of the
Discover card entrance and the single-rider lines; plus, the park wasn't very
crowded. All the rides were open and running well, except for Sky Tower which
was closed all day. I also rode Green Lantern for the first time, but was very
disappointed. It was really short and quite painful to have all my weight thrown
onto that skinny lap-bar.
This year's Fright Fest was the best one I've been to so far. My favorite part
was Backwards Colossus, as usual. They kept the line pretty short by running
2 backwards trains, and the ride op's tried to make it race with Colossus's
normal side as often as possible.
Batman: Foggy Nights was also cooler than I expected. The last corkscrew was so
disorienting that for a moment I thought I was still upside-down!!The theming
was overall nicely done--especially the lasers above DC Universe. I didn't go in
any mazes though; I was too busy riding the coasters.
So on Sunday night, I was planning to ride Deja Vu at the after-hours Exclusive Ride
Time with my friend. We arrived at Deja Vu around 10pm. When we got there, the
ride had just broken down. The train had valleyed between the loop and the
second lift hill, and they were busy evacuating the whole train.
(I talked
to a SFMM official who was helping with the evacuation. He said that the train
did not hook onto the catch car in the correct place, and so instead of pulling
it to the top, it lowered the train to the bottom of the lift hill.)
They used a separate winch to pull the train forward so that it would be over
the catwalk and people could get off and walk down the stairs. About 10 minutes
after getting everyone off the train, they ran it through the course again
backwards so that it was in the station again. They then told us that the ride
was closed, shut it down, and turned the ride's lights off.
As we heading to the park exit around 10:30, a security park-sweep guy asked us what
we doing in the park after closing time. He didn't know anything about the Deja
Vu ERT event, but we showed him the tickets we got from Guest Relations. He was
nice enough to tell the ride ops to turn it back on and let us go on Deja Vu!! I
got to ride it 3 times in a row---just me, my friend, and 3 other people. I'm so
glad I got to ride this incredible ride a few more times before it leaves for
good!
