The former Gotham City Backlot area is currently closed off to park guests while the crews work on Green Lantern, or as the sign indicates, the park's next thrill. However, we suspect that it might be more than just Green Lantern construction. Keep in mind that Magic Mountain still must 'transform' Gotham City Backlot into DC Universe. This will include a re-theme of the two flat rides (Atom Smasher & Grinder Gearworks) into The Flash & Wonder Woman's Golden Lasso along with the Axis store converting to the DC Store. Regardless of the temporary closure, this creates a difficulty in one; seeing construction of Green Lantern and two; Riding Batman The Ride. No signs of any changes in the area so far, but it does look like it is storage for boom lifts, which looks as if they're being used for the archway along with the building facades. No set date on when the section will re-open, but it would be a clever way to introduce the new DC Universe with Green Lantern. (click to enlarge)

Due to extremely high winds, several rides at the park are temporarily closed. A park official noted that the rides that had to close cannot operate safely in windy conditions experienced today. Rides include X2, Scream, Viper, Riddler's Revenge, Ninja, Batman & Tatsu along with others. Gusts have been reported at speeds between 19=Like any other severe weather condition, the attractions will re-open as soon as the heavy wind dies down and necessary test-runs are completed.
Last Thursday, Lindsey Lohan took a visit to the park along with her friends just before her next court date on Friday. Accompanied by friends and her brother Michael & sister Alli spent most of the day riding coasters. Lohan is seen riding Viper.
If you're just tuning into Green Lantern construction status, crews have already placed the supportings for the station of the ride. This process took them less than a week since we last visited, which is a possible good sign that track laying shouldn't be too long either. None of the ride supports are up as we can tell (they're black), which means that will most likely come next. Recall Roadrunner Express construction. Within ONE week of an update, crews set up all the supports and the week following they managed to finish the track laying completely. Green Lantern isn't much bigger in length, but vertical construction might take longer. Still no exact date is set for the ride's debut, but look for it in late May.
Within a week of supports being put up, construction crews managed to complete the entire track layout of the upcoming Roadrunner Express in Bugs Bunny World. In the pictures, you can see the coaster is completely finished- Track that is while the station, queue and theming still have yet to be placed. You can also see where the station will be located with the straight away section right before the lift. It's again still unconfirmed when Roadrunner Express will open, but is said to be in May sometime. (click to enlarge)
Green Lantern Site: Not a lot of new action at the Green Lantern construction site has emerged, but signs of work is still showing up. For one, you can tell crews have started to paint the facades to the side beginning with the last one on the right. It's unclear what color or theme the building fronts will be, but the white is probably a simple primer before the new paint is put on. Deep trenches almost like gridwork have been dug up in the center, which could be for powerlines or utilities. With the construction as slow as it is now, it leaves many questioning whether the ride will actually open in time for Memorial Day Weekend. Walking Bush: At first look, this new character isn't your every day Six Flags character like Bugs Bunny or Batman.. It's a Walking Bush on Stilts! Find him (or her) near the Rapids Camp Crossing area under Revolution's lift. Initially, we didn't notice the thing since it blended in so well in the bushes until it walked out onto the sidewalk catching an unsuspected woman by surprise. It reminded me of the Camp Gonnagetcha scare zone. Nevertheless, it's a nice touch. JB's Smokehouse Barbeque OPEN:
The new JB's SmokeHouse Barbeque food joint at Magic Mountain opened as the second BBQ restaurant venue to go into that building yet. Formerly known as Longhorn's BBQ, and even before that Eduardo's Grill, JB's opened to somewhat of a good crowd. Theming inside was no different than Longhorn's, and the menu was just tipping the scales of average pricing. Finally some progress is finally beginning to show at Roadrunner Express' upcoming site. In the past week or so, crews managed to construct the first, or if not the majority of the coaster's supports. Note the tallest support is where the lift will top out which gives a sense of where the ride will be situated and how. Large boulders have also been added to the border of the area, indicating a possible 'desert' theming attempt. On top of all of this, the track FINALLY MOVED from where it sat for over a year behind Apocalypse. Some track segments have been transported in front of Colossus facing the parking lot, which is possible a sign that construction of the track will start soon. Not all of the concrete is put in which could mean either the dirt will be part of the theme, or the concrete is just not in at the time. It's still unclear when the coaster is set to debut, but people are looking towards late May. (click to enlarge photos)

Guests could purchase a Fast Lane premium boarding pass for $15 (2002) $17 (2003-04) that would allow them four "premium" boarding opportunities. This however was an option on HOW they chose to spend their four rides. Say for instance, there was one person with a fast lane pass. they could ride 4 rides. If there was a group of two, they could ride 2 rides, and if there were 4 people- only one. The good aspect of it was no ride reservation times were needed. Although, unlike the Flash Pass policy today, only certain rides offered the fast lane on certain days, which put more restriction on their use. Was this system of $15 for 4 rides with no lines BETTER than The Flash Pass? Or was it in the end worse?
During our drive to las vegas yesterday, we stumbled upon an abandoned water park off the highway in newberry, halfway to vegas & Los Angeles. The park's name is Rock-A-Hoola, and closed down permanently in 2004. Since it was abandoned for nearly seven whole years, the park was trashed, broken into, and dilapidated. We were able to take a quick tour though of the interior, which had many of their shops & buildings- All which were already vandalized. Debris of all kinds were all over the place, including some employee files that were stored by management, now on the ground. The front gates were once fenced off when they closed, but after years of no control, the fences were taken out. We nearly passed it up, until we noticed the sign advertising the waterpark which didn't look like one at first look. And of course on the way back which was probably 1 or 2 am, the park was PITCH BLACK. Would you tour there at night after seeing the photos??
