Upon a little research on the Newhall Ranch Land Development project, it was revealed that Magic Mountain might own less land behind the park than we all think. The sign behind X2 at the Magic Mountain Parkway dead end indicates that the land directly behind Magic Mountain will consist of: 44 condo lots with 4,030 multi-family units, 11 mixed-use commercial lots with 1, 555,100 square feet of Commercial office. Rumored is a golf course, 7 public schools, 3 fire stations, 3 parks, and lake. This area has been planned for 15 years and would consume the back land of the park as well as the far side (Batman, Apocalypse side). According to sources, ground-breaking will begin sometime in 2012, but it's still unconfirmed when the project is complete. So basically, when the construction is finished, Magic Mountain will be surrounded by establishment, not barren hills. This decreases the chance for major expansion of the park around itself, except for the possibility of maybe taking some more parking lot.
The red arrow above points to Magic Mountain. As you can see the majority is directly behind the park, and some around it as well.
Sign at dead end of Magic Mountain Parkway.
It reads- Proposed on this site: Subdivide 16 parcels, 1,261.8 gross acres into 661 lots consisting of 382 square foot lots, 44 condo lots with 4,030 multi-family unit, 11 mixed-use/commercial lots with 1,555,100 square feet of commercial, retail & office space, 150 Open space lots for: Spineflower preserve (nature preserve), rec facilities, fire station, bus station, library, school, utility uses & roadways.
I think this will make SFMM a lot better to visit during the night because there will be city lights all across the horizon, especially from the sky tower! This will also bring much needed business to the park. I hope it works out in SFMM's favor! I'm not to bummed that the park can't expand more, because it is already huge by most park standards. They can always build a parking structure and use the parking lot for more space.
Yeah, but it was nice seeing rolling hills in the back too. It was also nice that Magic Mountain Parkway was THE road to the park, not another community.

I'm still skeptical as to whether they will follow through with this. The housing market isn't exactly booming these days...and besides, the last thing Santa Clarita needs is more homes. The traffic here is terrible already.
You'll find similar signs heading into the property like at the end of Valencia. However, I'm pretty sure the project is dead due to what happened to the economy and housing market.

Well if they made an Expansion in to the old parking lot to the left of Scream, there would be plenty of space. Then there is all that land behind the old parking lot that they are NOT using. I could see something happening in the future.

And yes, I live in Santa Clarita. The traffic is terrible. Imagine if Magic Mountain bought all of that land back in the 70's. Walt Disney bought a TON of land back in the 70's in Orlando. He only paid 1 million. Too late now.

I can understand that. When I'm in Santa Clarita (which is to go to SFMM or passing by) there are cars EVERYWHERE! Side streets, freeways, there is no escape. And I agree that it would be stupid having Magic Mountain Pwy leading somewhere else besides SFMM.

As long as Magic Mountain is still there and it doesn't have to lose any of its rides, I don't care what they do with the land around it.
