You heard it folks! That's it for Green Lantern vertical construction when crews capped off the last piece on the coaster today. The park released the finale photos of it's last track addition this afternoon. Of course, the project isn't completely finished yet though.. The queue, theming, and station is still in need of construction as well as the mandated testing that comes with every new coaster practically. Just as a reminder, Green Lantern opens sometime in June.

Yesterday, we passed Roadrunner Express' construction zone and found that the frame for the station had been added, along with other queue and coaster theming items. Giant boulders line the possible queue all around the area, while the park prepares to install more trees (the ones bunched up by the station). The trains have also been added onto the track just before the station. As you can see in the picture below, the trains still resemble shoes that Mr. Six's Dance Coaster was going to receive. On the picture on the top right, you can see the Roadrunner figure planted in the middle of the coaster as well as Wile Coyote (blocked by the support). Crews also repainted the queue building to yellow and red. (click to enlarge)
Today, we grabbed some cool shots of the progress of Green Lantern's construction phase. Since the park posted their pics a few days ago, crews have set up the switchback turn approaching the mid-course runs. As the deadline for opening is approaching closer and closer (which is June by the way), you will often find the construction workers working on Saturdays and Sundays like today. The same went for Roadrunner Express, which we'll post the pictures for tomorrow. Despite the ride's shorter height, it's fairly visible from the freeway, but hard to spot quickly since it blends in with Riddler's Revenge directly behind it. The ride will get one turn taller which will make it easier to see.
Today, we visited Magic Mountain to find the new DC Universe transformation progress. As you approach the closed area, the barricades flash a catchy banner advertising the new area along with Green Lantern to come in June, thus revealing that the coaster will in fact open in June. See The Photos Here >>It's only been a day since we saw the last construction progress pics and look where crews are at now! Crews just finished installing the first half to be done. This includes the mid-course brakes to be added to the last installment of the final turn and brake run into the station. After seeing how quickly the project itself is taking shape, you must wonder when their proposed deadline really is. Either mid-June, or their earlier deadline of Memorial Day Weekend?
Just a few minutes ago, Six Flags snapped a few photos of Green Lantern's progress at the moment. From the photos below, you can see that crews have finished installation of the final part of the coaster. This includes the final brakes before the station, and the last turn-around. From the last photo update five days ago on May 5, it took crews three days to install the current pieces; Not counting the weekend since construction workers don't usually work on Saturdays and Sundays. It's only a matter of time to see what the park can put together in three more days. Let's Go Green Lantern! (click to enlarge)
Today, the park posted this construction teaser image on their page on Facebook. Showing the first steps of track laying, so far crews have constructed the interior station track along with the supports for the track section. This also proves that the station will be elevated off the ground like many of the other coasters, if not all. Upon speculation, riders will have to walk up stairs to the main loading room and back down. It is unknown how long the track installation will take, but the park has to build the layout, station, queue and theming along with the usual test runs in three weeks in able to open it for the projected Memorial Day Weekend- A task that no longer seems reachable.
The Coaster Guy reported yesterday that the monorail trains from way back when have been removed from the park. After having spent years sitting in a backlot by the station, all three trains have certainly received their fair share of rust and decay. It has not been said what the next step for the trains will be, but it is highly likely that trains so old and rustic won't be put into operation again. We have yet to see what happens to the track, if anything even will for that matter.
No- It's not a new coaster. No- It's not a Tatsu, but rather a new eatery preparing to open at the park soon. Located in the Movie District as part of the Waterfront Commissary, the restaurant will fill the space once occupied by the former ICEE Mix-It-Up station, and even further back in 2010- Mrs. Fields. If logic leads us correctly, the title suggests a possible menu consisting of wings including chicken wings, buffalo wings; A type of food not yet seen at Magic Mountain. The past two food locations; Mrs. Fields and Longhorn's Barbeque which both opened last year in 2010 were shut down and replaced with new locations for 2011 including JB's Smokehouse BBQ & WINGS. If both of these do well, we might be seeing them for longer than a year. Do you like Wings?
