January 1-4, 2011 Photo Trip Report
Some background: On January 1, we visited Discovery Kingdom, which was our very first time. The park was due for an 80% chance of rain, but still opened despite the FREEZING (let me repeat- FREEZING) weather out there along with some rain here and there. The park was not busy whatsoever, partially because of the weather, resulting in ABSOLUTELY NO LINES! It was one of the last days of Holiday In The Park, and also last days for the 2010 season. On the way back home on January 4, we stopped by California's Great America which was closed for the season, but still was fun to see.
We passed by Magic Mountain on our way up north in the early morning.
Morning Shot.
Six Flags Discovery Kingdom
Woo! The might DK off into the distance! And yes, this was a "running pic" taken on the freeway.
Medusa standing in it's glory. No trains were running for a while before and after this picture peculiarly enough?
Roar's first drop is insane! (For a woodie that is). It might even step up in higher ranks than Apocalypse!
Monsoon Falls looks nearly identical to Tidal Wave, except more thrilling since the drop on this one isn't split.
These guys didn't mind the winter chill, nor the rain and were livelier than a lot of the
other animals! (And is it just me, or does that look like blood splatter in the back?)

The dolphins had it good out there- Their water was WAY warmer than the outside air! Lucky dolphins!
V2 (or Vertical Velocity), the X2 of Discovery Kingdom! Definitely a must ride when you visit!
A peek of that twist on the ride. It is really actually cool since on this Impulse coaster, the twist actually inverts you.
It's time for some extreme air-time and weightlessness!
Big Spin already changed it's name and theme everywhere!
Those spins were really fun after the toilet bowl. Tip: Ride with no hands. Much more freestyle that way. ;)
Roar had a lot of elements that Apocalypse uses, but Roar executes them in a much more thrilling experience.
Wait? Were these penguins Antarctic or African?
A shot of the "Christmas Tree Forest" walkway depicting a REALLY slow day for the park.
Unfornunately, a lot of the big thrill fixed rides were down including Hammerhead.
Dang! These things are everywhere!
This is a much smaller version of Roaring Rapids, but more action-packed. Of course, it was drained for winter.
VooDoo performed some sort of ritual before we came to not be open.
Boomerang in the background... Lifeless... Oh, who will save this creature from loneliness??
Medusa can be seen from a far, mainly because of it's massiveness!
Total emptiness!
Kong was my very first Vekoma Inverted, and I do have to say... It sure is a wild ride.. And a rough one!
Medusa after the block brake.
Maybe one of the largest Christmas trees I've seen is right here at Discovery Kingdom. And of course Disneyland.
That's a whole different story though.

California's Great America
Oh no! They have locked the Demon beyond this gate!
There we go. That's a good loop.
Demon's first drop as seen from Yahoo!'s company headquarters parking lot!
Another Demon shot. Too bad it shies away from the camera a lot.
It's Grizzly! One of the worst accredited wooden coasters in the world!
Now this one looks fun. Just look at those hairpin turns!
Have you noticed that Great America's coasters lack a station BUILDING? Past visitors
will know what I'm talking about.
will know what I'm talking about.
Now Magic Mountain needs one of those! FreeFall2: The Ride, NEW for 2067!
Great America's inverted coaster: Flight Deck! It might only have three inversions, but it still looks mighty fun!
And directly ahead, you will see Invertigo's lift towers, the Carousel, and Drop Tower.
Sorry for the last few blurry ones, but we end our Northern Cali Thrill Tour with the Star Tower. That's all folks!
